Jay Valle’s ‘99 Civic EX sedan
Inspiration can strike from any angle in the automotive world. Some take cues from the past, relying on clever tricks and patented crowd-pleasers from the never forgotten Hot Rod era, while others might draw ideas from present trends that are often white-hot one week, and quickly disregarded the next. The idea behind building a standout vehicle stems from finding that delicate balance; one that flirts with a variety of styles, without blatantly going overboard. If you can somehow avoid the money-related roadblocks, you might catch a stick in your spokes from the regular day-to-day trials and tribulations. As if that wasn’t enough to fill your plate, imagine being over 7,000 miles away from your wife and children for a span of six years, like Jay Valle of Lake Elsinore, CA.

In 1997, Jay took the sixteen-plus hour flight to the Philippines to continue his scholastic career. Spending the next four years in college opened his eyes to a whole new world. “Thanks to the night life, street racing, and the rich college kids with built Hondas, I was hooked. I pretty much fell in love with Hondas while living in the Philippines.” One model in particular really struck a chord with Jay, and his infatuation today is stronger than ever. The ‘99-’00 Civic sedan, particularly the Vi-RS model, is the one that held Jay’s attention over the past 10 years. As the urge to build his own Honda continued to grow, a funny thing happened; life. Finishing college, he married his significant other while still overseas, and was soon faced with a tough life choice. “I basically had no choice but to come back to the states in order to find a good job and support my family. Leaving them in the Philippines was by far the worst moment of my life,” he sadly recalls.

@pr0ph3cy92 everybody has their own taste, not saying there is anything wrong with yours. you can like what you want. but what i will say is that since the veyron is awd it can put its power to the ground more effectively, handle more precisely and be more practical in a magnitude of weather and surface conditions. rwd may be more fun, but lets face it, nowadays almost all new cars over 30k have awd standard, and its for good reason too.

It’s the end of the road for the current generation of the Civic Type R in Europe as Honda recently announced its hot hatch will no longer be sold in most parts of the continent from the end of 2010. The 2.0-litre, 198-horsepower hatch debuted as a production model in late 2006, and in its current form the engine doesn’t meet the new Euro-V emissions standards which now apply throughout the European Union.

Since its market debut back in January 2007, Honda has sold over 12,000 examples of this generation model in the UK alone. The next generation of the Civic is due to make its debut in 2011, with a Type R model expected (but not confirmed) to be in development.

Note: This engine uses the same block as the Integra Type R (B18CR), which is taller than the B16a block (by approx 17mm), but with a crank the same stroke as the b16a. It uses longer rods to accommodate for this, which is why the Rod/Stroke ratio is higher than a standard B16.

This car gets great gas mileage and runs good. Tires and interior are in good shape. Paint is fading in spots. Everything (air cond, heater am/fm cd player) works. No body damage other than poor paint. The car was used by college student to commute to school. Has high mileage but mostly freeway miles. Battery was replaced about 8 months ago. No other mechanical problems. Clean carfax no accidents and clean title. I need to sell it this week. All maintence done only 2 owners still has the window sticker when it was bought, so you know it was good taken care of. 2 keys and keyless entry remote

I don’t see the problem at all.There are always a few people to say ‘oh woe woe woe!!!!’, but I think the current Civic, and what I can see of this Civic, are excellent cars. I think Honda’s thinking way ahead of the game with their hydrogen idea, which is so easy to criticize because the concept is a little too meta for some folks (not intended as an insult). Honda’s on the ball lately. They aren’t making sweet Preludes, but they make great cars. Their Accord is sporty enough for most people, easily. Their Odyssey is the perfect car for people who don’t care about image. Their truck is an abomination.But their Civic is just a great handy car. Not too small, but small. Fast, but not stupidly exotic.And while the internet has some who seem bent on pretending this isn’t true: it’s just plain rock solid reliable. My old lady has been in Hondas for half a million miles and I just don’t trust some mere Chevy with her safety. If she needs to get from A to B, I know she will be able to, every time.You pay a premium for the fact that this brand built loyalty. Seems fair to me, but the Civic is a relative bargain.

The c pillar reminds me of either the nissan sentra or nissan altima! Its not bad looking but there is no originality to this design outside ! WTF is with that double ugly dash design? Only a honda fanatic would like that cyclopes dash board. I guess it is good honda still has its reliability and resale values as a selling point because design is not going to be a good selling point, well honda at least you have 2 out of 3, toyota has 0 out of 3 ,lol any ways honda you owe nissan a lot of gratitude for the back design. I rather buy a nissan sentra over this melted heap of junk. I can’t wait for that one rabid paranoid delusional honda fan to come on board saying, you all are honda haters, lol

This next-generation Civic will be smaller than the current Civic, though that's hard to gauge from these photos. We can see is the new small window a-la the Fit, immediately behind the A-pillar; a strong kink in the C-pillar; a sweeping character line on the lower panels and a more pronounced beltline. And while we have no shots of the interior– yet– we can see through the window that some manner of over / under gauges remain just like the current Civic and the Honda CR-Z.

Almost five years after its introduction, the eighth generation Honda Civic is still at or near the top of the passenger car sales charts in Canada. This is surprising when you consider that it’s not available as a hatchback – it’s offered only in sedan and coupe bodystyles – whereas its arch-rival, the Mazda3, is offered as a sedan and hatchback. (The Corolla is also offered as a hatchback, but it’s called the Matrix).
I often wonder how many Civics Honda Canada would have sold had they imported the sharp-looking Civic hatch from Europe.
Even after five years, the Civic’s aerodynamic styling still looks quite stylish when compared to its competitor’s recent redesigns, such as the Mazda3 sedan and Corolla sedans’. Inside, the Civic’s unconventional two-tier instrument layout, with digital speedometer on top of the dash and a traditional tachometer behind the steering wheel, was a bold design move in 2005 that could have derailed Civic sales – but to the surprise of critics, including me, it didn’t – although it’s worth noting that no other vehicle manufacturer has rushed to copy Honda’s dash design.

It will be interesting to see what Honda will do with the next generation Civic which is supposed to arrive in 2011 as a 2012 model. I’ll be rooting for an additional hatchback model and a new instrument panel.
Changes for 2010
For 2010, there are no major changes to the Civic sedan, except for the addition of a centre armrest and auxiliary port on base DX models. The Civic sedan is still offered with the basic 140-hp 1.8-litre SOHC 16 valve i-VTEC four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. As before, the Civic Si sedan gets the high-revving 197-hp 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC engine and a six-speed manual transmission, while the fuel-efficient Civic Hybrid develops 110 combined horsepower out of its 1.3-litre SOHC 8-valve i-VTEC four-cylinder engine and Integrated Motor Assist electric motor and generator. The two-door Civic Coupe also uses the 1.8-litre motor while the Civic Si Coupe uses the 2.0-litre powerplant.

The Civic sedan Sport ($21,780), which was introduced last year, is sandwiched between the DX-G sedan ($19,580) and the well-equipped EX-L model ($23,680). Over and above the standard equipment in the DX-G sedan, the Sport adds 16-inch tires and alloy wheels (up from 15-inch), four-wheel disc brakes (from front disc/rear drum), body-colour mirrors and door handles, chrome exhaust tip, power heated mirrors, power tilt/slide glass moonroof with sunshade, variable intermittent wipers, unique black cloth seats with contrasting silver stitching, 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, leather-wrapped steering wheel, outside temperature display, map lights, rear centre armrest, and USB device connector.
Our test car was an Alabaster Silver Sport sedan with the optional five-speed automatic transmission ($1,200), a Freight charge of $1,395, and air conditioning levy of $100 for an as-tested price of $24,475.

Driving impressions
Though it’s called the Sport, this Civic has the same 140-hp 1.8-litre engine as the base DX and premium EX-L Civic sedans – it doesn’t get the 197-horse 2.0-litre engine of the Civic Si sedan, or its six-speed manual transmission. But it does get rear disc brakes, an upgrade over the DX’s rear drums, and 205/55R16-inch all-season tires, an upgrade over the DX’s 195/65R15-inch all-seasons.
The Sport designation refers mostly to its appearance: sporty 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, chrome exhaust tip, body-coloured door handles, sunroof, and rear lip spoiler spruce up the outside while a unique velour/cloth black and white seat covering is unique to the inside.
As far as performance goes, the Civic Sport is on par with the other non-Si models: according to the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, 0 to 100 km/h comes up in about 8.6 seconds (with manual transmission) and you can probably add about a second with the automatic transmission. AJAC also recorded a 100 km/h to 0 braking distance of 42.8 metres.

Honda Europe announced yesterday that it will cease sales of its fierce Civic Type R, a victim of the continent’s new Euro 5 emissions regulations, which went into effect at the beginning of this year (must be some seriously stringent rules to cause problems for a Civic!).

The 2.0-liter, 198-horsepower hatchback, which debuted in late 2006, won’t be sold in most of Europe after 2010. Production of the British-built Type R will continue, but the car will be exported to Japan, South Africa, and Australia. At that point, why not put a few on the next boat heading to the U.S., too? Honda could use an infusion of driving fun on this side of the Atlantic.

The 2007 Sonata is the smaller of Hyundais two midsize sedans. It comes in three models: a) The Sonata Limited trim is the top-line model and has a 235-hp V6 and 5-speed automatic as well as heated front seats, automatic climate control and fine leather upholstery. b) The Sonata SE also has a 235-hp V6 and 5-speed automatic. c) The Sonata GLS has 162-hp 4-cylinders and a choice of either 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. While the old version reminded many car patrons of a Jaguar in terms of style, the 2007 version looks even better, with a front lamp that resembles an Audi and a backside that looks like an Accord. The thin roof pillars and the driver’s upright position also contribute to its esthetic value. The 2007 Sonata is also bigger, sharper and more technologically advanced version than the 2006 model. Overall, the Sonata’s advantage over other cars of its class such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima is that it combines comfort, spaciousness, sophisticated design and reliable performance as well as a reasonable price.

Almost five years after its introduction, the eighth generation Honda Civic is still at or near the top of the passenger car sales charts in Canada. This is surprising when you consider that it’s not available as a hatchback – it’s offered only in sedan and coupe bodystyles – whereas its arch-rival, the Mazda3, is offered as a sedan and hatchback. (The Corolla is also offered as a hatchback, but it’s called the Matrix).
I often wonder how many Civics Honda Canada would have sold had they imported the sharp-looking Civic hatch from Europe.
Even after five years, the Civic’s aerodynamic styling still looks quite stylish when compared to its competitor’s recent redesigns, such as the Mazda3 sedan and Corolla sedans’. Inside, the Civic’s unconventional two-tier instrument layout, with digital speedometer on top of the dash and a traditional tachometer behind the steering wheel, was a bold design move in 2005 that could have derailed Civic sales – but to the surprise of critics, including me, it didn’t – although it’s worth noting that no other vehicle manufacturer has rushed to copy Honda’s dash design.

It will be interesting to see what Honda will do with the next generation Civic which is supposed to arrive in 2011 as a 2012 model. I’ll be rooting for an additional hatchback model and a new instrument panel.
Changes for 2010
For 2010, there are no major changes to the Civic sedan, except for the addition of a centre armrest and auxiliary port on base DX models. The Civic sedan is still offered with the basic 140-hp 1.8-litre SOHC 16 valve i-VTEC four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. As before, the Civic Si sedan gets the high-revving 197-hp 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC engine and a six-speed manual transmission, while the fuel-efficient Civic Hybrid develops 110 combined horsepower out of its 1.3-litre SOHC 8-valve i-VTEC four-cylinder engine and Integrated Motor Assist electric motor and generator. The two-door Civic Coupe also uses the 1.8-litre motor while the Civic Si Coupe uses the 2.0-litre powerplant.

The Civic sedan Sport ($21,780), which was introduced last year, is sandwiched between the DX-G sedan ($19,580) and the well-equipped EX-L model ($23,680). Over and above the standard equipment in the DX-G sedan, the Sport adds 16-inch tires and alloy wheels (up from 15-inch), four-wheel disc brakes (from front disc/rear drum), body-colour mirrors and door handles, chrome exhaust tip, power heated mirrors, power tilt/slide glass moonroof with sunshade, variable intermittent wipers, unique black cloth seats with contrasting silver stitching, 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, leather-wrapped steering wheel, outside temperature display, map lights, rear centre armrest, and USB device connector.
Our test car was an Alabaster Silver Sport sedan with the optional five-speed automatic transmission ($1,200), a Freight charge of $1,395, and air conditioning levy of $100 for an as-tested price of $24,475.

Driving impressions
Though it’s called the Sport, this Civic has the same 140-hp 1.8-litre engine as the base DX and premium EX-L Civic sedans – it doesn’t get the 197-horse 2.0-litre engine of the Civic Si sedan, or its six-speed manual transmission. But it does get rear disc brakes, an upgrade over the DX’s rear drums, and 205/55R16-inch all-season tires, an upgrade over the DX’s 195/65R15-inch all-seasons.
The Sport designation refers mostly to its appearance: sporty 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, chrome exhaust tip, body-coloured door handles, sunroof, and rear lip spoiler spruce up the outside while a unique velour/cloth black and white seat covering is unique to the inside.
As far as performance goes, the Civic Sport is on par with the other non-Si models: according to the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, 0 to 100 km/h comes up in about 8.6 seconds (with manual transmission) and you can probably add about a second with the automatic transmission. AJAC also recorded a 100 km/h to 0 braking distance of 42.8 metres.

My civic was throwing code p1362 ( TDC no signal) a while back. I replaced the whole distributor (oem) and the problem was solved. A couple months later i had my timing belt changed (honda dealer belt service, since my car needed it anyways and the timing just didn’t seem right). That was about 2 months ago. Now my car is throwing the same code. I am going to replace the plugs and wires. But i have no idea why this would come back. Bad distributor? Could something have gone wrong when they changed the timing belt and water pump?
Today, while i was at a stoplight, the car RPM dropped and the car stalled.

first of all if the TDC engine code comes up, then it means its NOT top dead center. i would take it back to honda, maybe it jumped a tooth or the distributor was not installed correctly. what i mean is the rotor in the dizzy needs to be at the exact same place when you took it off. spark plugs is not going to fix your problem dont waste your money. if you are a do it yourself person look it up online and it will go step by step how to do it, but if you dont have patience just take it to the dealer or a tech. the dealer should still cover warranty over 2 month period. by the way if the coil was out the car wont start. i gaurentee you that its NOT TDC.

Last time we heard anything about a redesigned, reengineered Civic it as reported by HOnda’s PR guy Kurt Antonius, there is no hurry to introduce a redesigned model. Apparently, Honda felt that the current Civic is selling so hot that they can take their sweet time developing the next-generation model. [egmCarTech]

I showed some footage of the Daelim and other models that are incredibly similar to the Honda Ruckus, well this one is straight from mainland China and its made by LONCIN. Now I haven’t seen Loncin USA try to import it, I have seen the ICEBEAR trike Ruckus clone, but this is extremely close to the real frame. I’m curious if its a cheaper.

Why? Because the sporty hatch it’s not so eco-friendly and does not currently meet the Euro 5 emission regulations. The company will continue to sell the Civic Type R in markets where regulations allow it, and it will remain in production at the Swindon manufacturing plant. For those who don’t know, the 8000 rpm, 201 PS, 3-door made its debut in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006, while the production version of the car was unveiled in 2006 at the Paris Motor Show.

Here’s a shot in the dark:There have been rumors that the next Civic Hybrid would be built on the Euro Civic’s hatch design, and that the Insight would be killed off. That means the Civic Hybrid with the new battery tech would substitute both (5 door) Insight and Civic Hybrid (hatch shape better for efficiency) in North America. Apparently the Civic Coupe and Sedan would still be dedicated models, but the Hybrid would be the universal 5-door. This news would support that, although I have no idea and don’t necessarily believe it.

Honda’s IMA system sucks and everyone knows it. Honda has NO products right now. Their next generation Civic better be a winner or all is lost with them. The Accord’s last two generations were pieces of crap. The Civic is the only thing left with his company.It’s a shame, I remember when I would just drive to the Honda dealerships to droll over CRX Si’s, Preludes, S2000’s, and Civic EX Coupes…. not to mention the Acura dealership where I would droll over the Legend Coupe (Red with tan interior please), Integra Type R (White with white rims please), and NSX. How things have changed.

Apparently, some of the batteries in second generation Honda Civic hybrids, which went into production 5 years ago, are failing prematurely. To extend the life of the batteries, Honda has developed a free software fix for the 2006 – 2008 Civic hybrids affected which Honda told the Times is designed to improve the car’s performance.

The software fix, the Times says, ".. tunes the Honda hybrid system, known as Integrated Motor Assist, to limit cycling the battery, which means the electric motor often won’t kick in to give an added power boost when accelerating. It also curtails how often the gasoline engine will shut down when the car is at rest, such as at a red light, a key fuel-saving feature in hybrids."
